WHAT TO DO AFTER AN ACCIDENT? CNESST
When it’s an accident at work, you automatically come across the CNESST (Commission for Standards, Equity, Health and Safety) It is a government insurance that provides the necessary assistance for the complete recovery of the worker. To open your file, you must first notify your supervisor. Even if the pain seems weak, it is important to inform your employer of the situation. Often the actual damage only surfaces a few days after the accident. The date of the accident is an important date to remember because your file will be based on this date.
A document to be completed is the worker’s claim (RTR)
This form is essential if you need treatments such as physiotherapy or occupational therapy, orthotics or other medical equipment or for your medical and pharmaceutical expenses because CNESST will create a number to your file to pay the suppliers directly.
You could even be reimbursed for your travel, parking and meals during your visits to the doctor or therapy. Once completed, a copy goes to the CNESST, a copy to the employer and a copy remains with you. Then you will have to meet a doctor to open your medical file in the week following the accident.
The doctor can then continue the file by completing a medical certificate that will be given to the CNESST, a copy will go to your employer and a copy remains with you.
WHAT TO DO AFTER AN ACCIDENT? SAAQ
For road accident victims, the procedure is almost the same as for CNESST The accident must be declared as soon as possible online https://saaq.gouv.qc.ca/accident-route/ or by phone at 1-800-463-6890. After answering all the questions, a number will be issued to you, this number is important to remember because it will be on all your documents sent to the SAAQ.
Then you will have to meet the doctor. Again, the sudden pains of a road accident, are often felt 48 hours after the fact so even minimal pain (such as neck, shoulder or back) should be reported to the doctor. Any undeclared pain can not be treated.
